I got suckered into running a D&D campaign after not running any in YEARS, (since 3.5e). What cool new tools are out there for a DM? (Even better if they run on Linux as that's the only OS I run.)
I don't mind paid tools if they're worth the price, certainly prefer that over ads.
@cdp1337 are you looking for stuff to play online or organise your brain?
@aeduna Brain organizing; this will be an in-person campaign. Thus far I managed to find dungeondraft/wonderdraft map builders.
NGL I mostly use this notebook :) and writing up each session and mailing it to players. (who sometimes read it before we play even)
We've tried wikis and confluence and google docs to keep stuff together. They've got their pros and cons, but the harder you have to work to format stuff or crosslink it, the less valuable it is.
I haven't used this in anger, but it looks ok: https://mythic.nz/

OH.... I know! This sentiment extends to more than just campaign organizing; I faced the same issue with technical docs. There are all these advanced utilities for it but I'd get so distracted fighting with their buggy interfaces or complaining that their buttons are just non-descript icons that I would forget what I was doing.
Markdown + NextCloud all the way. Searchable, simple, and local!
@cdp1337 fighting confluence tables is probably a good 10% of my job, yah
@aeduna I'd still prefer Confluence over the internally-developed tool that corporate wants employees to use.
Some of this enterprise software.... I legitimately don't know how some of it sells.
_erm, I mean our software is amazing and everyone should totally buy it._
